10 Pack of Hearty Cherry Shrimp (Neocaridina)

I firmly believe almost any freshwater aquarium would benefit from having a thriving population of Cherry Shrimp (Neocaridina). They are fantastic at cleaning up uneaten fish food. They run their little pincers over every inch of your tank processing organic waste material. As they digest this waste material they break down the nutrients that then become more accessible to other organisms in the food web. We call our shrimp “Hearty Cherry Shrimp” because they're probably some of the toughest Neocaridina shrimp you'll come across. We grow them in practically all of our systems from the fish breeder barrels to the microfauna tanks. We don't baby them either or spend time culling for color. They play an important role for us which has nothing to do with their color purity. They are uniquely beautiful the way they are and can handle temperature fluctuations, large water changes and a wide range of other water parameters.

Not only do these little shrimp work hard to keep the tank looking good while entertaining us but also play a big part in your tank's food web. Fish will happily gobble up a nutritious shrimplet that strays too far from cover. This may seem harsh at first but in fact is a good thing. With adequate cover in a natural style tank, your shrimp colony will grow noticeable even with fish predators. The occasional shrimp snack will be highly beneficial to the health of the fish. If there are not enough places to hide or the fish are large and can eat the adult shrimp, you may find the shrimp colony can not keep up and dies out.

In many aquariums cherry shrimp don’t need to be fed directly, especially in a tank with fish. They will munch along eating fish waste, dead plants, leaf litter and biofilm. If you have a particularly large colony of no fish food entering the system you might need to supplement their feeding. They do great on a variety of high quality foods like dried seaweed, dried hair algae with minced garlic, cucumbers, zucchini, banana peel, strawberries, grapes and fish food. It helps to soften the fruits and veggies letting them way over rippern to the point of starting to break down. Experiment with different foods but remember a little goes a very long way! Start with thin slices of the fruit or veggie. If you throw a whole cucumber in your tank it will probably foul the water and kill the larger lifeforms.
